He has terrible tusks, and terrible claws, And terrible teeth in his terrible jaws... Who could it be? The Gruffalo!
We have loved our shared reading text, The Gruffalo. We have spent time learning the story and have even used drama to re create the scenes. We had a special delivery from the library service, The Gruffalo puppets! The children have loved using the puppets and can remember the story. The children have also learnt The Gruffalo song and performed it together.

EYFS have been working hard on developing their fine motor skills. The children have been grasping, squashing, stretching, threading, poking and printing to strengthen their fine motor skills. They are doing this so that they can further develop their pencil control. The children have loved filling water, mark making in sand and glitter, threading and dot painting.

The children are working hard in maths today. Year 2 are exploring a bar chart and EYFS are looking at ordering numbers.

Everyone in school took part in our annual Fun Run to raise contributions for PTA school projects.
Unfortunately due to the weather this year we could not take part all together on our field.
Instead each class took their turn to complete laps of our playground track in Fancy Dress.
We counted our laps in 10 minutes.

EYFS - Exploring the Trim Trail

The children in EYFS have been exploring the trim trail in our outdoor area! They are so proud of themselves for completing it independently!

The children in EYFS have been learning about different places that we can travel to! We have opened our very own Travel Agents and Airport. The children have had so much fun booking their adventure and travelling to the airport! Spain has been a very popular destination!

To celebrate or first week in EYFS, we brought in our favourite teddy bears from home and had a Teddy Bear's Picnic! We had jam sandwiches, biscuits, juice and sausage rolls! We all made our own teddy bear headbands to wear for the picnic. The children enjoyed talking about their favourite teddy bear with their new friends! What a lovely day!

Whole School - Archbishop Malcolm McMahon visit during Peace Week (January 2024)

On Wednesday 17th January, we were joined by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon and other guests from the Archdiocese of Liverpool, along with Father Mark Moran and our school governors.
We enjoyed some very special events as part of our 'Year of Peace' (2023-24).
The children particpated in prayer spaces with activities that included painting peace pebbles, origami boats for our peace river, hanging peace doves and creating prayers in our prayer garden.
Time was spent reflecting on how peace begins with us and how we can help be bring peace in pur relationships.
Other great activities around school included a Peace Dance, Music to celebrate peace and learning sign language for the song 'Peace perfect peace'.
We were also joined by Peace Pathways who worked with each year group on how to solve problems when there is a conflict.

World Book Day. The children dressed up as a character from a book and completed reading activities with their grown ups in class.
EY & Y6 - Easter Crafts with Prayer Partners

We met with our prayer partners to create some Easter crafts.
We made cards, hats, Easter nests and decorated crosses to hang on a tree.

EY & Y6 - Meeting their Prayer Partners

As part of our leadership roles in Year 6, we met our prayer partners in Reception.
We read books and played with our prayer partners to get to know them. We will meet with them throughout the year and work on various activities together.

Whole School - Christmas Jumper Day Coffee Morning

As part of our Advent Charity event for Nugent Care, each year group learns a Christmas poem and performs a Christmas song during our Jumper Day Coffee Morning.

Every year, we raise funds for our PTA by taking part in the 2p Challenge.
Over a month, we collect as many 2ps as we can at home.
Then on the challenge day, we bring them in to school and create lines on the playground.
We measure them and decide which year were the winners.

EYFS, Y1, Y2, Y3 & Y4 - Chester Zoo Visit

We all spent the day visiting Chester Zoo as part of our work in Science
Year 3 & 4 - Our Science topic was all about grouping animals. As we explored the zoo we looked out for mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians and invertebrates. We were very lucky to see so many animals in the good weather.

Whole School Collective Worship - Crowning of Mary

On Wednesday 22nd May, school celebrated a beautiful Collective Worship for the crowning of Mary as May is the month of Mary.

Whole School - Mental Health Awareness Week

NSPCC Number Day is celebrated annually in February and is a special day dedicated to raising funds for the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) while having fun with numbers. Here are some photos of the fun celebrations we had at school.
Whole School - Laudato Si Days

On the 25th and 26th October the whole school took part in our Laudato Si days.
These days focused on looking after, respecting and loving our Common Home

Alongside this every child made and added something to our St Basil's Bug Hotels that are now proudly standing on our field ready for their new inhabitants.
