In maths, we have looked at rounding numbers and thinking about whether we need to round up or down to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. Y4 loved playing a rounding game to see which numbers they could generate to complete their grids before their partner.

Year 4 have worked hard to create some lovely prints of different leaves, transferring the detail and outlines onto coloured paper.

We had lots of activities set up in the Blue Room this week to help us practise our gross motor and fine motor skills.

During our PD lesson, we thought about what to do when we were feeling angry. We discussed what happens to our bodies when we feel angry and what the best way to react to this is. We practised some mindfulness including breathing and tracing around shapes with our finger. We also explored the activities available to us on the self regulation station in class.

During our netball lessons, we practised a bounce pass. The aim was for the ball to only bounce once and for our partner to be able to catch it. We practised the correct position to hold the ball and how to hold our hands to make sure we could catch it.

This half term in EYFS, we have been developing our physical development skills through a range of fun and active PE lessons.
The children have been practising how to find and move into a space safely in the hall, helping them to become more aware of themselves and others around them. We have enjoyed moving to music, exploring different ways of travelling such as walking, marching, tiptoeing and jumping.
We have also been playing our traffic lights game, where the children respond to different colours. Green means go, orange means move carefully and slowly, and red means stop. This has helped the children develop their listening skills, control their movements and follow instructions.
One of our favourite games has been "Out of the Box", where the children use their imaginations to move like different animals. We have stomped like elephants, hopped like frogs, slithered like snakes and stretched up tall like giraffes. This activity has encouraged the children to experiment with different ways of moving while improving their balance, coordination and confidence.

In EYFS, we have been working hard to develop the skills needed for successful writing by strengthening both our gross motor and fine motor skills.
Outside, the children have been building their strength and coordination through a range of practical activities. They have enjoyed moving heavy crates, balancing on and carrying planks, and using nuts and bolts to twist, turn and fix objects together. These activities help to develop the large muscle groups that support good posture and control when sitting and writing.
Inside the classroom, we have continued to develop our fine motor skills through lots of engaging hands-on activities. The children have been practising mark-making and letter formation in sand, writing on whiteboards, taking part in our daily Dough Disco sessions with playdough, improving their cutting skills, and using tweezers to pick up and manipulate small objects. These activities help to strengthen the muscles in the hands and fingers, preparing children for writing.
In phonics, we have now learned the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m and d. We have been practising how to correctly form each of these letters, carefully starting and ending in the right places. It has been wonderful to see the children's growing confidence as they use their phonics knowledge in their mark-making and early writing.

Rainbow Unit Yellow Class- Week 5

Yellow Class🟡
We have had a lovely week in Yellow Class this week! We have created Autumn Trees using cotton balls which has helped our fine motor skills. We hope you loved seeing these as much as we did! We have been practising our fine motor skills using tweezers to sort objects into different coloured pots.

Y2 Celebration of the Word - Mary

Year 2 planned and delivered our end of week Celebration of the Word this week. Our focus was the celebration of Mary and the rosary in October. We prayed the Hail Mary together and sang Ave Maria
TM. I really wanted to read and share the Gospel and I was glad I got to do this.
CG. Next time I would like to have some quiet music for people to think to themselves.
Rainbow Unit- Orange Class Week 5

In Orange Class 🟠 this week, we have taken part in a lovely painting activity, this supported working on the children’s fine motor skills. We used cotton wool balls and pegs to paint! We hope you loved receiving these at home.
We have completed a lot of matching activities this week, matching pictures and colours, some even matching numbers and the alphabet.

Years 5 and 6 World Museum Trip

We had a fantastic time at the World Museum in Liverpool. We learnt about the Apollo missions to the Moon in the planetarium and even got to see some real space food! We also looked around the rest of the museum and saw artefacts from Ancient Egypt and explored the dinosaur floor.
Y3- Pope Leo Celebration of The Word

Year 3 planned and delivered a very thoughtful Celebration of The Word which focussed on Pope Leo. They chose a hymn to sing, thought of prayers that could be included and worked well as a team to equally share out parts.

In groups, year 3 talked about and dramatised what happens during the offertory procession. They each took part in being the priest and the congregation and through readings and responses.

We read to the end of our text 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers. We freeze framed the most important sections of the story. Then, we ordered the story and retold it to our partner.

The children in Year 1 really enjoyed playing Picnic on Pluto on Phonics Play! They had to read a word and work out if it was a real word or a silly word. The alien called Bob ate the real words and the alien called Obb ate the silly words. The really made us giggle when Bob would burp after eating! This week in the Blue Room, Year 1 have been working extremely hard! We have been using play dough to improve our fine motor skills by making things that the animals on our play dough mats were missing. We have been practising our long legged giraffe letters using rainbow writing on huge pieces of paper! We have been continuing to practise our number bonds to five and saying one less than a number to 10. We loved creating alien names for the new aliens in the room and using our phonics to sound it out - some of the names really made us laugh!

Y2 Active Maths - Counting in 2s

To secure our knowledge of counting in twos and identifying numbers in the two times table we completed a scavenger hunt. Under each of the 100 cones was a number. We had to find the number that matched each symbol on our sheet by identifying if it was in the twos or not.
EYFS - UTW Autumn and Life Cycles

This week, we have continued learning about the signs of autumn and the changes taking place around us. The children enjoyed exploring and feeling some conkers that Miss Rankin found on a walk. We talked about how they looked and felt, and the children were particularly interested in how smooth and shiny the conkers were.
In Understanding the World, we have been learning about life cycles. Together, we discussed how people change as they grow, thinking about the different stages of life. We talked about being a baby, a toddler, and the children we are now. The children enjoyed sharing their own experiences and discussing the things they can do now that they couldn't do when they were younger.
We also explored who we know at different stages of life, identifying family members and friends who are adults and those who are elderly. This led to some wonderful discussions about our families and the important people in our lives.

This week in Music, we have been exploring a range of nursery rhymes and counting songs. The children have enjoyed singing and joining in with actions for 5 Little Speckled Frogs, 5 Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed, 5 Little Ducks and 5 Current Buns. These familiar songs have helped the children develop their counting skills whilst building confidence in singing and performing together.
We have also been learning "Mmm Mmm Frog", listening carefully to the rhythm and joining in with the repeated phrases. To accompany our singing, the children explored the güiro, learning how to create different sounds by scraping the instrument and keeping in time with the music.

Over the last couple of weeks, our English text has been Peace at Last by Jill Murphy. The children have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and have been developing their understanding by retelling the events and discussing the different things that happened to Mr Bear throughout the night. We have also enjoyed talking about our own bedtime routines and sharing how we get ready for bed at home.
Our shared reading text has been Whatever Next!, also by Jill Murphy. The children have loved joining Baby Bear on his adventure to the moon and have continued their learning through a range of provision activities. In our space role play area, the children have used small world figures and their imaginations to create their own space adventures, blasting off to the moon and exploring outer space.
To develop their creativity and fine motor skills, the children have been making funky space shapes in playdough and practising their scissor skills by carefully cutting out space-themed shapes. It has been wonderful to see the children using vocabulary from the story and incorporating their learning into their play.
We are looking forward to beginning our next shared reading text, A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson. We can't wait to discover the characters and join in with the repeating phrases as we explore another exciting story together.
CAFOD Family Fast Day Simple lunch 2nd October 2026

A group of twenty children from Key Stage 2 participated in a special 'simple lunch' today.
The children wanted to show solidarity with others around the world who are less fortunate.
They sacrificed their usual dinner for a simple meal of soup, bread, salad and fruit.
We are so proud of the maturity that they showed in making this decision and for taking part.

The children in Yellow Class have had a lovely week this week. They have enjoyed singing Old McDonald with different animal puppets and some children have even been trying to join in with the words and noises. They have used ‘iced paint pops’ in creative to create abstract art pieces. We have made sensory bags for the children to explore and they loved the different textures!
