Rainbow Unit Yellow Class- Week 3

Yellow class 🟡
This week the children have enjoyed painting their salt dough and exploring using different paint brushes. They have enjoyed our dough disco session and have enjoyed squeezing and rolling the dough. They have enjoyed exploring the safe sand and some have enjoyed this more than others! They have enjoyed exploring using the musical instruments and making a lot of noise!
We have had another lovely week. Have a nice weekend!

Rainbow Unit Orange Class- Week 3

The children in the Orange Class 🟠have done some painting this week, they enjoyed this a lot! Some children got a bit more messy than others but all enjoyed the experience!
We have all enjoyed taking part in some mark making, exploring the different coloured pencils. Some children coloured pictures, some drawing shapes and some just exploring the colours and fine motors movements.
Our sensory play this week was investigating safe sand. The good thing is, it is completely safe to eat-luckily! 😋 the children enjoyed rolling the cars through it and making tracks, sprinkling the sand and some even exploring it with their mouths!

We have started to work on our Tennis control skills this half term with Mr Ward during Friday P.E. We have balanced equipment and begun to get a rally of keep ups on the racket.

We have been getting to grips with using DoodleMaths on our brand new set of iPads. We have learnt how to complete assignments and our 5 a day questions.

We have met Timothy Limpet in our Writing text 'Troll Swap'. Today we designed our own troll and described them using adjectives and noun phrases.

We worked in fours to debate whether Lydia from our text in English should return home.

The children from Year 6 came over to visit Early Years to meet their Prayer partners.
The children enjoyed learning each others names and getting to know one another as they played.
It was especially nice to see Year 6 helping their partners as they learn how to make the sign of the cross.
We are looking forward to spending time together throughout the year for lots of special activities.
Y2 Light of God’s Creation candle holders

We worked collaboratively to design a stained glass style candle holder using hot glue and lolly sticks. We stuck 4 pieces together to make a candle holder representing our care for Creation
Y2 Computing Painting Pictures.

So far we have learnt to use 2Paint to focus on impressionist art and pointillism. Today we looked at the work or Piet Mondrian and created our own style of Mondrian painting.

As a part of their creation and covenant unit, year 3 have used their artistic skills to draw a representation of one of the days from the creation story and colour it in using oil pastels.

We worked with partners to solve non-routine problems in maths. We had to sort the given numbers to show which were the largest. The sum of our answer was our score. The challenge was to arrange the numbers to make the highest score that we could.

Year 3 worked really hard today on their basketball skills. They focussed on dribbling in different ways and had a practice at all 3 types of passes.

Today, we learnt about the Jewish festival of Yom Kippur in our whole school assembly. We learnt that during Yom Kippur Jewish people wear white and think about asking God for forgiveness. They also pray five special prayers during that special day.
Y5 Salt Dough Ten Commandments

In RE today, we discussed The Ten Commandments and explained which one we thought was the most important one. We then made stone tablets using salt dough and wrote the commandment we thought was most important on it.

Year 3 have enjoyed doing a variety of different activities in music. They have focused on pitch and rhythm in some singing activities before having a go on their recorders for the firdt time!

Year 3 have been using place value counters and grids to support them with their learning and to secure firm foundations in numbers up to 1000.

Year 3 have worked hard to begin mastering some of the basic skills of table tennis. They have all worked very and been very patient when trying to keep the ball on the table!

Y6 Salt Dough Ten Commandments

We discussed The Ten Commandments and then made stone tablets using salt dough and wrote on the commandment which we thought was the most important one.

This week in EYFS, the children have been exploring the signs of autumn as part of our Understanding the World learning. We have been discussing the changes we can see in the environment, including the different colours of the leaves, cooler weather and how nature changes during this special season.
The children enjoyed creating beautiful autumn wreaths using paint and printing techniques. They carefully selected autumn colours and experimented with different tools and materials to create their own designs.
In our music sessions, we have been learning and performing our autumn songs, Autumn Leaves and Big Red Combine Harvester. The children have loved joining in with the actions and singing together.
In phonics, we have learned the sounds 'a' and 't' and have been busy practising recognising, saying and forming these sounds. Thank you to all families for supporting your child's reading at home. We really appreciate the time you spend sharing books and practising phonics, as this makes a huge difference to children's progress and confidence.
In maths, we have been developing our counting skills and have been learning to count reliably to 3 through a range of practical activities, songs and games.
We are incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been during their learning this week. They are continuing to settle well into school routines, make new friendships and demonstrate our school rules: Be Safe, Be Proud and Be Respectful.
Next week, we are looking forward to going on an autumn hunt around the school grounds to search for signs of the season. We will also be using the natural treasures we find to create our own autumn creatures. We can't wait to continue our autumn adventures!

We took part in Active Maths for our lesson to consolidate our understanding of numbers up to 1,000,000. We had to find partitioned numbers that were hid around the playground. Once we had found then, we had to work together to work out what the six-digit number was and read it. The first team to find it and work it out got a point and the team to find the most numbers first got 5 dojos each! We then made up a little tune to help us to remember what place value means.
Y5 Celebration of the Word-Creation

Some Year 5 pupils planned a Celebration of the Word around the theme of Creation. They decided to use the song "All Things Bright and Beautiful".

This week we started our new Guided Read text 'The Troll' by Julia Donaldson.
We enjoyed reading out loud in expressive voices and predicting about the characters.

Yellow Class🟡
We have had a lovely week in Yellow class this week.
We have carried on with our letter ‘S’ in phonics and have enjoyed singing our nursery rhymes. All the children have enjoyed the tactile exploration of the salt dough experience. We have explored Gelli Baff and some children enjoyed the sensory experience more than others! We have experienced different sensory elements during our sensory story about the weather eg. Water spray for the rain and a fan for the wind. We have enjoyed taking part in our sensory PE session where all of the children enjoyed exploring the sensory equipment.

Today, we experimented with colour in our art lesson. We used watercolours to try out different colours so that we can choose our favourite combinations for our final piece at the end of the half term.
